Our additives sources of minerals were developed and are manufactured exclusively by LipoTech S.A. for the Food and Health Industry. Our Bio Additives were offered to the Dairy Industry, as our main clients are in this Sector. One of these products, named Biofer® (Microencapsulate Ferrous Sulphate), allows the fortification of fluid milk to a level of 15 - 18 mg of Iron per litre of milk.  Biofer® has been used in the Argentine food industry since 1993. Since 1998, our product has been commercialised in Australia. The volume of shipments of Biofer® has been of about 15 metric tons each year, which means an average of approximately 60 Million of processed, fortified milk per year. A milk containing our Iron Additive, Biofer®, was awarded with the SIAL D'Or '96 in Paris, France.

Our products present the following characteristics:

1. High Bioavailability.
The absorption of the essential elements, such as minerals, is mostly determined by the solubility of the salts being used. So, generally, the better solubility, the better absorption and bioavailability.
One other factor that interests us is the biological behaviour of the element once it is absorbed. This means that the element must follow the same metabolic routes that the salts considered of reference.

Several studies have been done to determine the bioavailability of the salts and the results were excellent, as shown in the brochures shipped. I.e., our Biocal AAS® has the same distribution, is less toxic and more bioavailable than the Calcium Gluconate, considered as the reference salt in this case. This scientific study was carried out at the University of Buenos Aires and was accepted in the XIIIth International Congress of Pharmacology, in Munich, Germany, July 26-31, 1998 and displayed at the New Drugs Stand.

2. High solubility in water
Our additives have a very high solubility; (solutions with over 50% weight in weight can be easily obtained), which allows an effective addition to the different products, without modifying the aqueous volumes of them.
When used for Pharmaceutical and Veterinarian Products, they allow the use of smaller quantities than other additives. I.e., 300mg of Calcium can be bottled in 10-ml ampoules.

3. Sensorial characters.
Our additives have excellent taste and aroma. The presentation of the stabilised gluconates is as a white powder (500 - 600 g / cm3), odourless and with slightly sweetish flavour. This is achieved by the controlled production technique to preserve the colour and aroma of the product, which is crucial for its various applications.

Biofer is a suspension of liposomes -containing Ferrous Sulphate stabilised with vitamin C and protected by soy phospholipids-.
The Recommended Daily Intake of Calcium, (800⁽¹⁾-1000⁽²⁾ mg), Potassium, (1800 mg), Magnesium, (300⁽¹⁾-400⁽²⁾ mg), Iron, (14⁽¹⁾ -18⁽²⁾ mg) and Zinc, (15^(1) (2) mg) can be easily solublilised, obtaining a transparent solution without the unpleasant after taste and can be easily flavoured. These characters are essential, when adopting an additive.

General considerations:
Our additives are permitted mineral sources.
Biofer® stabilised Ferrous Sulphate by vitamin c and encapsulated within soy-phospholipid liposomes .As a general characteristic, they present a high solubility in water, have an excellent bioavailability, the solutions obtained are crystal-clear and have good taste, sometimes slightly sweet, depending on the quantities used.
All raw materials are Food Grade or USP quality. Demineralised water is used in all cases. The solutions are sterilised by micro-filtration before the spray drying.
